BlackToMyRoots Team

Our team consists of myself, Aleesha Henry, and my daughter, the brainchild behind our BlackLikeMe Children's Collection.

Aleesha Henry

I was born in the UK in the 70s, almost 50 years later, the saying 'the more things change, the more things stay the same' takes on even more significance for me, I didn't really understand it when I was younger.  First born, first generation child of the Windrush parents, Brixton born and bred,

I have been passionate about Black rights and the injustices our community faces for as long as I can remember.

Some of my earliest childhood memories are of being caught up in the 1984 Brixton Riots, Afros and Afro Combs, Brixton Frontline, Cherry Groce's violation and asking a nursery matron ' What do you think this is, Roots?' when she asked my 6/7 year old self to put some cups in the kitchen!

So I suppose on reflection,  it was only a matter of time that I would found an Unapologetically Black Brand.

More about me and the sagas of my life growing up Black in the UK will be available in the upcoming BlackToMyRoots blog.

I was the Country Finance Director in Liberia for Save The Children UK. This is one of my favourite pictures from that time!

I got malaria, came back to the UK and was blessed to conceive my daughter. The other half of BlackToMy Roots.
